Why it's our favorite
Not invasive. One day. Free to run.
It's one of our favorite products because it's so non-invasive. No wiring, no electrician, no mess inside your home, and nothing added to your electric bill. And sometimes just adding a fan makes a real difference, without replacing your insulation or adding more.
A strong solar panel driving the fan, not the small ones in big-box kits
Powered by the sun. No wiring and no electrical hookup
Most installs take a few hours, from the roof
An efficient attic isn't just insulation
When people think about an energy-efficient attic, they think insulation. But the building envelope (everything that separates the inside of your home from the outside) works as a system: insulation slows heat coming through the ceiling, air sealing stops air leaking between the house and the attic, and ventilation gets the heat out of the attic before it builds up. Miss one and the others work harder.
That's why a solar fan alone can help so much. If your insulation is in decent shape but the attic still bakes, the fan may be the piece that's missing. We'll tell you at the inspection whether a fan is enough or whether the insulation needs work too.
What it does for your home
- Cooler rooms upstairs. LA attics can top 140°F in summer, and that heat soaks down through the ceiling. The fan pulls it out before it gets to you.
- Your AC works less. With a cooler attic above it, the house holds its temperature longer and the AC doesn't have to fight as hard.
- It protects your insulation and roof. Steady airflow keeps heat and moisture from building up under the roof deck, which is easier on the insulation, the wood and the shingles.
- A drier attic. A ventilated attic stays drier, and dry wood is less inviting to moisture-loving pests like subterranean termites. It's not pest control and doesn't replace a termite inspection, but it's one less reason for them to move in.
Not the big-box-store fan
Many store-bought solar fans pair a small panel with a small fan. Ours runs a 40-watt solar panel, so it moves a lot more air on the same sunny day. It's fully solar-powered, with no wiring and no electrical hookup.
No attic access? No problem.
Plenty of LA homes have attics you can't get into from inside: no hatch, a sealed-up closet, or a low, tight roofline. We install from the roof instead. We cut in from outside, set the fan, flash it into the roofing and seal it. We've done it on shingle and flat roofs.
Better together
A solar fan works best as part of a healthy attic:
- The Westside Attic Reset: cleanout, sealing, new insulation and a solar fan, in one job.
- New insulation keeps heat from coming through the ceiling; the fan takes heat out of the attic above it.
- Air sealing closes the gaps between your home and the attic, so the fan pulls hot attic air out instead of cool air from your rooms.

- Mar Vista, August 2026: old insulation removed, new blown-in and a solar fan in the same visit.
- South Santa Monica, 2026: solar fans added to full attic cleanouts and new insulation on two homes.
